An Important Tip For iPhone Users

Has anyone just been totally frustrated by constant crashing of apps or general sluggishness of their device?

I sure am sometimes. I use a lot of apps all the time and I know from my own experiences developing that apps can be buggy but most of all they can be hard on memory and the iPhone OS itself is no different.

It's up to developers to make products that do not leak memory and as much as I try to hold up to Apple's high standards of memory management, some things still slip past the goalie.

When I test my apps for memory and performance I will often see memory leaks that are beyond my control, in the core software framework of the device. My point here is that these issues must occur across the board for all developers and all apps. If you're using a lot of apps on your phone then you're probably over time going to experience some slow down in performance due to lost memory.

The solution is (excuse me if this insults your intelligence): reboot your phone once or twice a week.

Do a total hard re-boot, not just hold lock and home button and slide to power off. To do this, push and hold both lock and home buttons but don't let go when it says slide to turn off just keep holding the buttons down. The screen will go black, the Apple logo will pop back up.. That's your cue to let go.

Do that once or twice a week and you should see and experience less app crashes and less general sluggishness.

Pass this tip on to anyone you hear that's always complaining about apps crashing, it may not be the developers fault!
